We no longer rise to the great challenges before us. It’s not just that we can’t plug the oil leak, which is the perfect metaphor for what we’ve become. We can’t seem to do much of anything. - Bob Herbert

British Petroleum’s well has been pouring thousands of barrels...

British Petroleum’s well has been pouring thousands of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico for over a month, killing thousands of animals, and obliterating any sea life in its path. And as I pass, I wonder about its history, what is behind that beautiful facade, and why does it lay vacant and rotting. Apparently, I’m not the only one who curiously admires this edifice. Nick Carr of Scouting New York was lucky enough to have a private tour and he posted little tidbits of what he learned along with many photos of 5 Beekman Street.
