NYTimes.com looking for Java Software Engineer
The New York Times is looking for a creative and talented Java software engineer to work on our website and content management systems. As part of our digital team, you will build pages and modules that help readers explore the world through our extraordinary archive of articles, photos and information. You will also be asked to build tools that help site producers more efficiently present that material in different contexts as we reinvent our site for the digital age.
This position is in the Software Development group of NYTimes.com’s IT Department, but will work closely with people in editorial, design, and product management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 2-5+ years experience writing web application in Java and familiarity with J2EE concepts.
- An understanding of general web application architecture and the fundamentals of software design.
- Strong experience working with SQL. Should possess the ability to manually update data records using hand-written SQL.
- 2-5 years working in a project-driven software development environment
- Experience with Open Source Java frameworks such as Hibernate and Spring
Plusses:
- Good working knowledge of Perl.
- Experience working in a Unix environment. Basic familiarity is required. Shell scripting or administration experience is a plus.
- Experience working with web content management / web publishing systems.
- Experienced in hand-coding HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and DHTML
- Experience with XML, XSL and XSLT highly desirable
- Knowledge of AJAX or other Web 2.0 technologies
