Hugging The King of The Jungle →
Back when I was an aspiring Biologist, I spent my weekends volunteering for a local non-profit organization that rescued lions and tigers from illegal ownership. If you love animals, like I do, it was a dream job. My responsibilities included bottle feeding the cubs, training the adolescents to “play nice,” and visiting the older ones like this adult male in the video here. A lion that...

Largest Recall of Ground Beef Is Ordered →
While this New York Times article focuses more on the health risks associated with producing meat from “downed” cows and less on the disturbing animal abuse, which to me should be the story here, it does state: The Department of Agriculture started an inquiry and suspended the company as a supplier to federal nutrition programs. Steve Mendell, president of Westland/Hallmark, said...

Freaky iPod Shuffle
I still have a 15GB third generation iPod that I use at work. This iPod currently holds 2400 songs of every musical flavor and genre imaginable to fit my every mood and taste. Lately, because I either can’t decide what type of music to listen to or my mood is all over the place, I’ve found the “Shuffle Songs” feature very satisfying as it provides me with a sampling of...

A Chant to Soothe Wild Elephants
I just finished reading the book, A Chant to Soothe Wild Elephants: A Memoir by Jaed Coffin. A touching memoir about what we all are, at one point or another in our lives, searching for - the meaning and purpose of our life - the search for enlightenment. His writing is full of gritty truth and self reflection. A wonderful read.

Ask Presidential Candidates to Pledge to Visit...
President Bush is flying to Africa on Friday. This is his second trip to Africa, making him only the second U.S. president—along with President Clinton—to visit Africa while in office. It’s critical that the next president strengthen the relationship between America and Africa and keep this tradition alive. Sign the petition and ask all of the presidential candidates to pledge to visit...

Water Bottle Challenge
stopglobalwarming.org Inspired by our friends at Brooklyn Green Team, who are running their own “No Disposable Water Bottle Challenge,” we would like to challenge our virtual marchers to give up disposable water bottles. Start with a commitment not to purchase any plastic bottled beverages between now and Earth Day (April 22). Every year, Americans throw away over 22 billion plastic...

The Greenback Is Losing Global Appeal →
THE dollar used to be the universal tourist currency, accepted almost anywhere, from the streets of Hanoi to the plains of Africa. But the continued slide of the dollar against other currencies has led the greenback to be shunned in unexpected places, creating new problems for American travelers and pushing prices higher. And the craziest part of this article:Even in New York, some shops are...
